Through the recent very successful Inter-Commission Symposium in October 2024, we have uncovered many ways in which physics research can contribute to physics research for a sustainable planet. We have two requests.
1. Video links: Please share the attached programme file IUPAP ICS Programme v11compressed.pdf with your physical society contacts with these links to video recordings of Prof. Giorgio Parisi, NL, speaking on the subject:
Part I: <https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14292387>
Part II: <https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14293521>
Or https://zenodo.org/communities/iupap/records?q=&l=list&p=1&s=10&sort=newest.
Look for Inter-Commission Symposium: Physics Research for a Sustainable Planet (Part I, 12 October Part II, 13 October).
It is planned that the next ICS will have stronger involvement of the Commissions to help us prepare the IUPAP defining position on physics for climate change action and sustainable development, in preparation for the major international conference that WG21 is planning in 2027.
2. We are looking for contacts in member, and non-member, territories across the world for Working Group 21, Physics for Climate Change Action and Sustainable Development.
These should be physicists with an interest in climate science or sustainability science. Please email the names and emails of potential contacts to me as WG21 Secretary, igle.gledhill@wits.ac.za, cc secretariat@iupap.org.
Of course, if this has already been done, it is not necessary to repeat it.
Please contact Igle Gledhill, igle.gledhill@wits.ac.za, with any queries.
With best regards.
Igle Gledhill
Secretary, WG21
