African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Ghana is now accepting applications for the AIMS Quantum Hackathon (Quantathon) scheduled for July 8-11, 2025.
AIMS recognizes the barriers many face in not having the opportunity to participate in advanced training and research in AI and quantum science and technology. To bridge this gap, AIMS established the Quantum Leap Africa (QLA) to place young Africans at the leading edge of quantum science and technologies of the future. The goal of the AIMS Quantathon is to create opportunities for young Africans to participate in quantum education and contribute to the development of Quantum Computing (QC) applications for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Based on the “Hackathon in a Box” toolkit which is curated by the Open Quantum Institute (OQI) Education Consortium, this premier event seeks to bring together the brightest students from different parts of Africa and quantum technology experts from across the globe to use advanced AI and quantum science and technology to contribute to the SDGs.
The Quantathon also forms part of the AIMS Quantum Technology Education (QTEdu) 2025 events for the celebration of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). The theme for the AIMS QTEdu 2025 is “Accelerating Capacity Building to Advance Quantum Science & Technology”.

The quantum education workshop aims to develop world-class innovative education programs for Africa and the Global South that unlock the potential of young people and transform them to be at the leading edge of quantum information science and technology.
