This international conference is one in a series that have gathered biennially, over the past 30 years, physicists and other scientists who direct their work towards several aspects of nonlinear phenomena and complex systems. The main purpose of LAWNP meeting is to create a motivating environment, such that researchers from Latin America and from other parts of the world can present and discuss not only their own latest results but also the trends and perspectives in this very interdisciplinary field of investigation. Hence, it constitutes a forum for promoting scientific collaboration and fomenting the emergence of new ideas, helping to advance the field The meeting is deliberately structured to encourage active participation from young scientists through both invited and contributed oral presentations and poster sessions. The conference will consist of plenary invited talks, symposium, mini-symposium, contributed talks and poster sessions.Read More »XVI Latin American Workshop on Nonlinear Phenomena (LAWNP 2019)

XVI Latin American Workshop on Nonlinear Phenomena (LAWNP 2019)

Two workshops in a row. All participants are encouraged to take part in both. The aim of the first part (Oct 7-9) is to give young scientists and science students tools to advance in their careers factoring in a gender perspective. The aim of the second part (Oct 9-11) is to exchange information on the situation of women and under-represented groups that try to do science in Latin America and on the initiatives implemented to reduce the gender gap and increase diversity in STEM. There is no registration fee and limited funds are available for travel and local expenses.Read More »Workshop on Skills for Young Scientists/Increasing Diversity in STEM

Symmetry in nature and in mathematics may be encoded by groups of symmetry operations, or more generally by the action of Hopf algebras (quantum symmetry). Several powerful tools are used for understanding these actions, such as Lie theory, group theory, tensor categories, fusion categories, and cohomology. The areas to which these ideas apply range from such classical subjects as geometry, combinatorics and algebra to quantum computations, vertex algebras and conformal field theories.Read More »ICTP-SAIFR Workshop on Quantum Symmetries
